temps for Northern Pines

Lovin2act Apr 06, 2011 07:26 PM

I read somewhere (cant for the life of me remember where it was now or else I would link it) that Northerns need to be kept at cooler temps than say Blacks and Southerns. Is there is hint of truth to this? I am grabbing up a rehome and want to make him comfy and happy. Most care sheets group all the different Pines together for their care requirements, so I want to be certain first before doing so. Thanks for any input!

The very existence of flamethrowers means that sometime, somewhere, someone said to themselves..."You know, I really want to set those people over there on fire...but I'm just not close enough to get the job done."

Not claiming to be an expert but out of all the pines I have kept I have had quite a few northerns. And when I got some Blacks I figured the temps I have kept my northerns would be fine. But a couple of my blacks didnt eat and didnt do much of anything at those temps. So I upped them a little bit and they did amazing. They all eat and are doing exactly what I want them to be doing. But there are so many factors involved with raising and breeding these snakes that I cannot out right say that temps are the sole factor in your issue. This is simply what I have seen with mine. Hope it helps.

in my experience, n. pines definitely thrive best & are happiest at ambient room temps. the introduction of artificial heating will usually result in regurgitation......etc.

Ah so maybe it is true then! I really appreciate the info!

Yeah I had a black for a while myself and he was terrific for me. Never any eating issues but I did keep a fairly warm UTH with him at all times. So after seeing the statement somewhere to keep northerns at a lower temp, I am trying to make certain of it's accuracy. Thank you for your input Max!

I have 2 N. Pines that for the time being are kept in 55 gallon tanks. I keep a 75 watt heat lamp on one end of each tank. They seem to do great, don't have feeding problems, and they have never regurgitated a meal.

My N. Pines do seem to go off feed earlier in the year than everyone else though. Usually in September or early October, but will begin feeding again in February or early March. Hope this helps.
