Big Belly New Borns- Help

Marko1 Apr 07, 2011 07:27 PM

Is there way to make certain a big belly baby survives? had a litter this morning. Momma was full term and some more. All the hypos and normal hets have almost no bellies, but the albinos and sunglows seem to be the only ones that have large sacks. Also the only still borns were also albinos and sunglows. I was wondering if the floss method works first off, and second is it just a cooincidence the albinos and sunglows got the brunt? Anyone experience the same problem? Appreciate all the help. Thanks.

Yes it does happen often that the albinos and sunglows have big bellies. I have had a couple of litters do this and I found if you do not try to move the babies right away they have a better survival rate. I usually pull the mother and put her in another cage then let the babies stay were they are then tie off the yoke sack. Best off luck and hopfully they all make it.
