My California Kingsnake

DjFizz Apr 10, 2011 12:31 AM

Hey all, just wanted to share some pictures (mostly from feeding time) with you of my pet Cal King, Ike. I was especially attracted to him because of his semi-unique design. I know most kings are banded or solid, and I have yet to see another one quite like him. Enjoy.

This is what is known as a reverse striped Cal king. I don't know how common they are but I've seen quite a few pictures of them. Nice looking animal.

He is very pretty, and very healthy looking! Great pics of him posing on the stick and feeding.

Also, that snake looks like it could easily take a couple of fuzzies instead of pinkies. I have some kings smaller than that and they can easily take down two large pinkies.

That's is a beautiful example of a reverse stripe cal king. I can see what attracted you to it.

I love the black pattern on the head and neck, very cool.

Thanks for posting.

Nice high white reverse stripe cal king. I used to produce those about 10 years ago. I even produced a nice albino specimen like that.

Cool picture on the branch.

Cool snake. You can pick him out of the crowd. And he likes to eat.

cute king

Put him on fuzzies.

Is he as neurotic as other baby call kings I've seen or is he fairly calm?

Thanks all for the compliments. It's funny, I never really thought of myself as a snake person until I saw him at the pet store. I don't know what it was, but the guy gave me a great deal, and he was very calm when I held him the first time. So to answer your question varanid, no, he isn't neurotic. He's very docile and doesn't mind being handled. Just the way I like it.

I've never had any reptile before him, let alone a snake. Lol. Thanks for sharing the albino photos, those are pretty cool looking too. Interesting to see how they are still striped like mine, but not black. I especially like the pic with its tongue out, I'm jealous of that. I keep trying to get a pic of my Ike with his out, but never get the timing right.

He's still so small, I like that because the upkeep is pretty easy, but I am anxious for him to get bigger too.

Yep...albino means amelanism which in turn means NO BLACK......

A normal striped (not reverse) amel or albino is white with a yellow/cream/white stripe down it's back........

Google striped calkings and amel striped calkings and check out all the images.....
Then do reversed stripe........

Nice looking calking you have there btw......Have fun with it....Before long you will want more....There are hardly any snake keepers with just one snake.....LOL

You said it! It is very hard to NOT have just one snake! I actually would not be able to do it. No way. Gotta have more than one..HAHA!

Thanks for the compliment. After Monday, I will only have a few left over from last year, then it is a waiting game to see what pops out this year.

Still trying to reduce on the number of breeders LOL
