Hi,
I posted once before when I found a 6 inch baby scarlet kingsnake. I gave that snake to my vet for his birthday. He is a herpatolgist.
Anyway two nights ago I found a beautiful snake. I could not believe the size of it. I have found Eastern Corals that long but never a scarlet kingsnake. I have it in a 36" terrarium. Wnen it stretched out it was 4" inches shorter than the length of the terrarium and it was not totally stretched. It still had a few curves in it body. I read that the record is 27" so this snake has the record beat by 5". It also has a thicker body than most I have seen. The last thing different is that half way down the body two of the yellow bands join each other to make a circle on the top of the snake's back. The rest of the rings are normal all coloring is vivid all ring incircle the snake with the exception of that one set.
Is it possible that I found a subspecies? I wonder if the length, thickness and unusual mark are related?
