More 2011 Zonata pairings . . . . . .

JKruse Apr 12, 2011 01:07 AM

Many females are swelling at this point and are looking very promising. Too little time behind a camera with so much going on, but here's more of wat's going on . . .

Santa Barbara county coastal trio (male has more patterning on head, and one female is definitely gravid) . . .

Diablo intrgrade pair . . . female has 7 follicles and is on the left . . .

A monstrous pair of Kern Plateau intergrades . . .female is te confluent one and fat with eggs . . .

St. Helena female from Lake County swollen with 5 eggs . . .

MALE

San Mateo coastal pair . . . female has red on her head and is also swollen with eggs . . .

FEMALE San Mateo

ANOTHER GRAVID FEMALE San Mateo

MALE #1

Female Loma Prieta coastal coming out of post-brumation shed . . .

MALE

Tuolumne county (Clavey) Sierra multicincta pair . . . female is swollen with eggs on the left and the male is the big ol' bruiser on the right. Their bands are more of a gold color that i couldn't seem to capture in my 15 minutes behind the lens . . .

. . . and one of their holdback babies from 2010, female . . .

They still have alot of growing to do...
I won't know about successful or unsuccesful breeding for a while....Unless I get some adults from someone......

They multifasciata are eating machines....the agalma are a little more finicky but still eat well....

As for that Kern pair, here's the only surviving offspring from 2 years ago as the clutch took on a bad fungus that went awry. Last year zilch, and this year is looking great again. . .

This series of photos is most helpful to me with my gravid pyros, to get an idea of what a gravid mountain king snake should look like.
You have an awesome collection!

Some great looking snakes Jerry. I really like the z.z. with the wide black bands. I hope they all produce.

Please do be careful about mentioning locality information on an open forum though. County or range designations are fine, but if someone wants to know more take it to a PM.

Yeah I got grilled for mentioning Bass Lake locale years ago on the forum. I was just so used to what it was I was not thinking.
