Eggcrate method

Paige69 Apr 12, 2011 02:30 PM

Hello,
Does this look about right? I did put hatchrite in the bottom to counter the water sloshing.

Jason/Mike/Other Awesome members!!! thanks for all the nice pics

King of Spades - thanks so much for posting a picture of the tool used to cut the egg crate. (I am pretty sure it was you that did that a week or so ago)

No problem. Looks good.

Good luck with your eggs!

That's it. You can even double stack the egg crate if you want to give yourself extra space between the eggs and substrate, but that will work. Keep the substrate wet and good luck.

Thanks so much!! You guys rock!! It is two layers of the egg crate but the container is so small. Pls keep in mind am using a small incubator.

My container is 10.5 inches in length, 7 inches wide and 3.5 inches deep. Should I still have Saran wrap between the lid and tub? V/R Paige

you may need a taller tub if you get a large clutch clumped up together like a pyramid.

I would still put something between the top of the box and the lid to help hold in the humidity. I use pieces of the plastic sheeting that you get at a hardware store for covering up windows. It doesn't stick to itself like saran wrap, so it's a little easier to use (in my opinion anyway).

Paige69 that is a perfect example of the light diffuser method. You need to hold onto that photo to people that have questions about using that method. Excellent job. Jay

Yes, Bengals as in felines, Not the Tigers although I love the Tigers and funny as it might seem I have a huge Tiger coming out of the jungle as a tattoo on my back going from my belt line to my shoulders and of course from one side to the other. Always have loved tigers. These are Bengal cats which come from breeding tabbys to Asian Leopard cats. They are a pretty awesome cat, they must be cool because I was a pretty devout cat hater until I ran into these. If you havent seen them look them up on Google or someplace like that. The Savanah is another breed of wild cat to house cat but I dont think they are nearly as striking as the Bengals... That compliment on the eggbox photo was well deserved, its a great thing to have to show all the people that are not sure what we are talking about when that is mentioned. You could probably do just fine taking one layer out if it is going to make your eggs touch the top. I use 2 layers if I am not using the puralite under it just so I can make sure there is plenty of water in it but using what you have is great because all you have to do if anything is to pour a little water into the box if you think the stuff is getting to dry. I used it both ways last year, puralite with 1 egg crate and just the two egg crates with water, I think I will go with the one layer and the medium under it this year.. Check out the cats, they are awesome to say the least and of course the bellies look just like a leopards pattern. Jay
