KelliH Sep 28, 2003 09:35 PM

Here is a really neat looking female I recently acquired. I think she's really cool.

Dang what are your plans with that girl Kelli?

KelliH Sep 28, 2003 11:48 PM

My chances of finding a male as dark as her are slim to none... so, i dunno. Maybe I will breed her to an albino or maybe I won't breed her at all, at least not until I find the right guy for her

would you call her melanistic? Shes very dark.. hard to see what colors she is. Looks black in that photo.
You always get the nicest leo's.
A male i aquired that was one of yours is taking on some gorgious color. I finally got a good photo of him

I would call her "hypermelanistic", meaning increased black pigment. She is the darkest adult leo I have ever seen.

Aww that male is cute! Is that one of the one's that you got from Donna? He looks so great!

That is the darkest leopard I have ever seen hands down... working towards a melanistic project with her Kelli? or are you simply posting all these pictures to make Monte jealous. lol!

Super cool.

Nah, I'm not jealous. Actually I'm very happy for her - secure in the knowledge that my futile quest has spurred Kelli on. LOL.

I do have a male warming up in the bull pen . . . but you never really know about them. One moment - YES - another - NO.

That female of Kelli's has a tinge of red/orange in it, if I'm not mistaken.

Again, very cool.

I have been on the same quest as you for many a year now. My experiences have been similar to yours in years past ie. nice dark adults that produce nice normal babies. I also bred patternless males to some of my "dark" females and bred the hets back together to try and create a black patternless. Oh well (sigh) another project that didn't pan out!

It's still fun though - dreaming up the combinations and trying them out - sometimes succeeding. I think that's what I like about this hobby the most. The potential - the dream. I quit thinking about the potential money awhile ago - I'm pretty content with this being a hobby (translated - I'm not going to quit my day-job!!!).

I'm sure all those huge professional breeders are breathing a sigh of relief that Monte Meyer of Powergeckos is NOT going into this business big time. LOL!!!!!!

I got her from my friend Scott from Texas Lizard Connection. I couldn't believe it when I saw her, I had to have her!!!

Not sure at this point what I will breed her to... probably I won't breed her at all until I find a male similar to her, if I ever do!

You might want to try breeding her to a very non-hypo albino, and get some hets and try to work towards an all pink albino!Wouldn't that be neat? Not that you don't have half a dozen other cool projects you're working on....but I'd love to see one someday, and I don't know of anyone else who is working on that, though I've heard the idea tossed around before.

She is really dark! She even has that dark wash all over. Great girl you got there.

powergeckos Sep 28, 2003 11:01 PM

That is very striking Kelli. I sure hope you can produce something with her. She's got the spots and the dark background.

Nicely done!! Woo hoo!!!
