california kingsnakes...

mikefedzen Apr 12, 2011 09:29 PM

I'll start it off with my 04 albino male, useless as a breeder, but I'm glad he's back to feeding because he always takes care of whatever another snake doesn't eat, lol.

He's probably about 3 and a half feet, he was pretty thick when he went into hibernation, looked like a gravid female.

Here's a female chocolate banana california kingsnake chowing down on a fuzzy.

This picture doesn't show it's color too good, this is a california kingsnake produced by Kerby that's possible het Ghost, Albino and Hypo. She looks kind of hypo as it is, I like her "little bit of everything" pattern, bands, stripes, dots, dashes.

Here's a female Ghost, het for albino and hypermelanistic, also produced by Kerby. These guys are feeding machines in the making.

Hey Dennis,
Thanks, I like to think I have a nice variety of cali kings, no two in my collection look the same.
The last snake was actually a Mussurana not a king.

No idea really... People who breed them say they're harmless, and others say to be careful with them.

I know someone who used to have an adult, he'd feed it mainly DOR snakes, and sometimes he'd do feeding trials with baby kingsnakes he'd buy wholesale. Kingsnakes that may be immune to rattle snake venom, are not so immune to mussurana saliva...
Another buddy of mine told me to watch out when I'm around those things because his friend had been bit by one and his arm swelled up.
I handled them the day I got them, but they're always hungry so if you're pulling the drawer out you're gonna need a mouse to give it or a snake hook to keep it in the drawer. Half the time they'll attack the snake hook.
