Help with new turtles

turtle4life May 26, 2003 05:35 PM

My cousin found 4 baby box turtles and I need info on housing for them. I've had turtles before but never babies. What would be good for holding them and what should be used for flooring.

Look on the Internet for webpages about raising baby box turtles. There is too much to tell you in one email! I have a chapter about it in my online box turtle care book at www.boxturtlesite.org/bxbook.html

The most important things are to keep them moist (use a moisture loving bedding like Bed a Beast or terrarium moss), well fed on live insect foods, warm (82 degrees in the day, 75 at night) and give them access to clean water in a shallow dish and to provide UVB light. Tess

Where did you cousin find them?

Near where they were cutting down trees to build a pool and some other stuff. One of um was in a cat's mouth since we have alot near where we live.

Instead I would consider taking them back to where he found them and release them, assuming it was an appropriate environment. You really shouldnt be taking babies out of the wild.
