Mosaic cal king Q's

Hoppingherps Apr 17, 2011 07:23 PM

Been really trying to find the answer to this question. Does anybody know if the Mosaic california kingsnake was started from crossing to the mosaic florida or eastern or is it totally a new line coming from cal kings?

They are PURE californiae.....they don't even look anything like a mosaic Floridana or Eastern........

I think the Californiae mosaic gene is co dominant and the other mosaic getula are not...they are recessive.....

John, I think your right on the co-dom and recessive. I think the striped gene is co-dom in FL Kings....Maybe the king of FL king will put it to rest for us...

Jimmy...I know the mosaic gene in Floridana is recessive....I used to have some hypo striped floridana years back and they never bred as codom....unless bred to each other....Kinda like a line bred trait.....

Yeah...I've been contemplating getting back into Floridana again, but haven't really been persuaded yet.....

I really like the looks of a Hypo Mosaic........I think a Mosaic Sulfur Lavender would be killer as well as a Mosaic Jelly.......

I may need to expand the snake room this Summer....LOL

Yea, I hear ya on that John! I have someone always dangling a snake in front of me....I never really had a passion for getula for some reason or another, Kerby sure sparked my interests in those Cal kings he posted, but I may venture back to NA Milks again. I just love working with those little worms!!!

I know.....The only NA milks I ever worked with were annulata and amaura......But I am interested in some nice, pure Latin American Milks....Arcifera, Polyzona, Oligozana, Stuarti, Blanchardi and REAL Hondurensis......

Yep...Shannon, Jeff, Paul Kaiser and Scott Ballard......Scott has some nice Nicaraguan Hondurensis.....The real deal......and a nice yellow too.....

But you are right...not alot of real ones around anymore with the big Hondo craze that has simmered down as of late....

Arcifera, Stuarti, Blanchardi, are my favorites out of that bunch and will probably join me in the near future. There are some guys over seas working with stuarti, but are they pure?

If I were to get any Stuarti it would be from Scott......
I think I know what Stuarti you are talking about on that Czech or German site......I think Shannon and Doug spoke to that guy about it and it wasn't truly Stuarti.....But I am just speculating on which one you are talking about....

Yeah, "vaclav" did show one of the parents to that bizarre looking aberrant stuarti, and the parent he did show us looked to be a very genuine stuarti meristic-wise, but just showing ONE parent doesn't mean anything whatsoever, and he never did show a photo of the other parent...LOL!

That very aberrant so-called "stuarti" he posted a good while back very much resembled the European "Jaap K." line of hypo Hondo if it were to get crossed with a stuarti or anything else that is similar from Latin America. It's sort of convenient that there are all sorts of Jaap's hypo line over there..LOL!. Scott and I talked that over some time ago. For me to REALLY believe that was indeed a genuine aberrant stuarti, I would have to see BOTH parents, and their parents before them to be convinced something else didn't jump into the "kettle".

Weird stuff certainly does pop up now and then, but man-made crosses pop up FAR more often now days as we all know.

Gerrit Burnsy also has some nice looking stuff across the pond on his site.

Yep...Vaclav was the one I was talking about.....He even has an "amel greeri" on his site......But he did refine the granite mex mex from lines exported/taken there years ago......

And Gerrit does have some killer stuff....

Yeah, the so-called "amel greeri" definitely raises the eyebrow of suspicion, doesn't it?..LOL!

Mosaic Calis have been around a while!!! I know they were at least available in 2005. Don Shores or FR would know for sure. It was a toss-up between those or Hypo Splendida from Don Shores. I went with the Hypo Splendida. That was the same season I got a pair each of F1 neonates of 2 different locations of splendida X holbrooki from Lassiter. Man, those were sweet snakes!!!! But they all fell victims to my wife's first expulsion!!!!!

POCooney Apr 17, 2011 08:59 PM

Actually, second expulsion!!!!

It's okay Pat....we can make some more......
You had the Nueces and Aransas County intergrades, correct?

I had some Refugio and Calhouns at one time too, but they were considered more holbrooki or pure holbrooki.....north of the Copano Bay....

Kerby... Apr 18, 2011 12:16 AM

Brian from B.H.B. Enterprises was selling Mosaic cal kings in 2002 for sure because I passed on them and bought the Ghost/Palomar cal kings in 2002.

I have no idea where he got them from though.

Kerby...
