more eggs

leeherpsgirl Sep 28, 2003 11:06 PM

Today I found out that both my female bearded dragons are pregnent again. Tonight the one laid 26 eggs. And 13 looked normal. She had the the fist eggs early today and 13 looked real small and brown. But the rest she had tonight looks real good. But I notice before she started hiding them she took her head and started pouncing on them. So i don't know what that meens. But I took them out and put them in the icubator. and they look good still. I have a nother female going to give birht soon. So I'm going to need a bigger icubator

so can someone please tell me why she did that. Does that mean she killed them because I was watching?
thanks shawna

That is very interesting.. I have never seen a female bearded dragon "smack" the eggs directly before if that's what you mean.

I know that they will do that to cover the eggs.. like after they dig the hole and lay the eggs and fill the whole back up with dirt.. they will take their head and "smack" the soil down to compact it in good and tight.. it's part of the burial process of burying and hiding the eggs. Then will also use their head to move the soil around and knock it lose if they have to.

I wasn't sure exactly what you meant in your post. If you mean she just laid the eggs on the floor and was smacking them directly she may have been unhappy with whatever burial site she was given for whatever reason and she was attempting to hide/bury them as best as she could in the open. If she was doing that where she dug out a hole and deposited them then more then likely she was just burying them and moving the soil around.

My female Buffy does that everytime. It is almost like she is trying to arrange them so they are easier to bury. Out of all 3 clutches she has just laid she did this all 3 times and all the eggs look good.

Good luck with the eggs.
