Breeding Advice

JMo Apr 18, 2011 04:45 PM

Hi Guys - back for more advice. I put my two pair of kingsnakes together today; all have been brumated, all have shed and all ate on Friday. I had them together for about 45 minutes with no results before I separated them and put them back into their own enclosures. One pair had no interest; in fact the male looked like he wanted to escape. The second pair was a bit more interested; but i don't think anything significant. The female twitched her tail a few times; the mail just stared at her.

When should I put them back together and for how long; hoew many times? When together how can I tell if they are really interested in each other to anticipate a possible lock?

Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim

Make sure you have a male/female pair.

I always wait until the female sheds for the first time out of brumation. I leave her shed skin in her cage, then introduce the male. Once he smells her shed......it usually isn't a problem.

Otherwise I would separate them and try a few more days later.

Kerby - thanks for the response and the information. Unfortunately I disposed of the sheds. I'll make a note in my journal to keep them next season and leave them in the tub.
I plan on reintroducing the pairs again in a few days.

Thanks,
Jim
