Pastel Motley litter need help

tat2darin Apr 18, 2011 05:51 PM

I had a litter of inferno x pastel dream motleys hit the ground yesterday, day 111 pos. Great litter 1 slug, 12 norms, 7 motley, and one 19g little guy!

One of the motleys has eye problems like seen in albinos. Bug eyed with a light blue ring at the base, they do move and dilate. Today they started to cloud over.
Seems like a while back I read about a treatment for this condition... Anyone have any input?

The little 19g guy has his hemi's hangin out, I have heard about using a sugar water soak, but what are the details?

Any input would be great! I will try and get pics up soon!

Thanks, Darin Cooper

You should get yourself some Terramycin ointment or Tetracycline ointment. This could happen again and it's good to have some on hand. If you catch it early enough the eye can be saved and will return to normal. Those of you breeding Sharp or Kahl Albino stock should DEFINITELY have this on hand. I've seen eyes just like that return to normal, like nothing was ever wrong but you have to catch it in time. Sometimes they come out with it to far a long but most of the time you can save the eyes when they are like that. Hope this helps and Congrats on the litter.

Thank you so much Ruben! I got some Terramycin ointment. Put a dab on each eye. How often should I apply it? Do you have any insight on the prolapsed hemipene?

I'd Use Preparation H on the Hemipene. I doubt if the little guy
is gonna make it but you can try Preparation H .

I know people use a sugar paste or honey also but I'd go with " Prep H "

Thanks Larry! I should have remembered that! I will go with that method. He is pretty active and alert, tongue flickin too! I really hope he pulls through, I've got a special love for the runts!

Once in the morning and befor bed, just enough to cover the eye. Best of luck with the little one!

Where'd you find terramycin? Noone seems to know what I'm asking for at pharmacies. Is it a prescriptions only thing? I've one with issue in one eye, an albino. And one with a tongue that sticks outta its mouth like broken party favor...? I don't think can be helped, can it? It's pretty far out but still flicks fine....

just type it in google search, then select shopping at the top, there are hundreds of websites offering it in a tube over the counter. I am grabbing some to have on hand off ebay right now for about $7 shipped.

I've got a good vet that called it in for me, Walgreens had it in stock, $34. If getting it quick will save it's eyes it's worth any amount! I won't get caught without it again... His eyes are already lookin better, THANKS Rubin!!

Awesome! Hopefully it'll fully clear up after the next shed. Usually, after the eye has been treated and the Boa starts a new shed the eye will still look a little bad but once it sheds the eye will look perfect and back to normal. Sometimes it takes two sheds. Once you notice the eye doing better you can start treating it once a day instead of twice. Best of luck Darin! I didn't see that you needed help finding it but the fella with the Google advice is what I would've suggested. My computer was down for a couple of days so my internet access was limited. $34 isn't bad. I paid $30 for mine I believe. $7 sounds to good to be true but it is e-bay! If your getting it from Walgreens your sure to be getting a fresh tube.

OOooppss,it was Paradox that needed the help finding it!

tat2darin Apr 23, 2011 01:58 PM

Yep that's what I was thinking, that it would take a shed or two to get back to the good. One is already lookin much better and both are much less bug eyed than they were. The whole litter is going into first shed so I am keeping my fingers crossed!

Wee-Man, the little 19g guy, not so lucky. He went quietly into the night. I really had hopes of him makin it, he was so active. But he was still a joy to spend time with in our short time together.... Rest in peace little man!

hi. very curious as to how your snakes' eyes are healing up?! I had my first litter right around when yours did and have an amazing looking sunglow with a puffed out eye... took a week to get the terramycin but have applied it twice a day since I got it. The snake has just shed but it really didn't affect the eye at all when it did i.e. still looks the same as before it shed... have you had faster results? It's crazy cause when she was born it barely looked noticeable but within a few days it really started looking bad and I'm wondering how long I should try the meds before trying to find a vet that will offer any help other than putting it to sleep if it's really not "that" bad.. or the eye can be removed to help the snake... any input is appreciated and I hope your snake is well by now!!!! Thanks!!!

He is doin better... Still a ways to go. Don't know if he will ever be right, but only one shed in at this point.
Would love to talk more about it, feel free to call.
