mister or fogger?

jdecker94 Apr 18, 2011 07:50 PM

so im just about ready to take my pump sprayer from petsmart and run it over with a truck, hit it with a big lawn mower and melt it down into a worthless bar of plastic. idk if i want the new zoomed fogging system or the monsoon mister system. the fogger would look nice but the sprayer might be more efficient in keeping 90% humidity for my monitor.

I think the mister is better, it keeps a more steady humidity. The fogger creates very drastic changes, increasing humidity to 100% and lowering also very quickly.

I think the 90% you want is way too much for any species.

I keep prasinus and they seem to be fine with 65%. When I mist it can go up to 99%, but I always wait until it lowers to 65% to mist again, and that may take 2-3 days.

well its a melinus monitor, they do require high humidity, with the new cage i put it in it keeps 80% humidity with ease if i give it 1 good spray per day. but the mister does look nicer.

If you want to go with a fogger, which WILL bring up humidity to insane highs for a while then settle back down. I'd work out a schedule for how long it takes to come down with misting then install my "ghetto" fogger. Buy a cheap cool mist humidifier from CVS, Walgreens, RiteAid or whatever and stick it on a digital timer. Once done, set it to run at 2 minute intervals often enough to keep humidity up. Just use PVC and silicone sealant to neck down the fog output port on the humidifier and run a plastic tube from that into the tank.

I'm actually thinking of buying a cheap netbook and wiring all my systems into it to use as a controller. Set up a private website so I can control and monitor the temps, webcam, humidity, photoperiods etc. I know it's not necessary, but I'm something of a technophile.

I am no expert, but 80% seems a bit too much if kept constantly.

Monitor enclosures usually allow very little ventilation, and such a humid enviroment may result in respiratory disease.

If you keep 65-70 in most of the enviroment, the hiding spots, if well set, will be far more humid. And your monitor will have choices.

Also make sure you are positioning your humidity probe in the correct area. If it's too close from the heat source you'll never be able to have a real reading, it will be always too dry.
