Update on PTS plans

WaGuy82 Sep 29, 2003 01:49 AM

Thanks Jess and Flavia for your suggestions. I have taken your suggestions and are doing the best I can.

However, my cage was already ordered and the size is 24 by 20 by 72. It is being custom made with a screen top and linoleum bottom. It will still be lined with indoor/outdoor carpet that I can cut and replace.

I have cork bark tubes now and I love them. They look like trees but are so lightweight. I also have some reptile vines, but considering their size, I don't think that's a good idea. Where do you get your rope from? Do you think I could staple them using a staple gun?

Since heat is a problem, I wont use a mercury vapor bulb because of the heat issue and will just light it with a full spectrum floursecent. No live plants, just grapvine so far. Would a silk ficus be good? I plan on cutting down a plum tree and letting it dry, but I need to research that a little more.

I have panacur and flagyl on hand, but I bought them over the internet and one is meant for fishes and the other's meant for horses so I wouldn't have any idea how to dose them.

Does anyone have any other suggestions?

SOUTHERN FLORIDA CORUCIA RESEARCH CENTER (SFCRC)

Location: LEE/1.

Hello,

ARTIFICAL PLANTS:

We use silk plants only and have done so for years. The advantage is keeping your design intact and keeping a better track of who is eating what and in whatn amounts. Set-ups at the SFCRC consists of miniture trees and hanging vines. The vines are attached to the hardware cloth ceiling. As to your question on ropes, staples are fine as long as their are no raised areas from the staples that a toe can get caught.

MEDICATIONS:

It is STRONGELY advised to consult with a Reptile vet rather than take random chances or taking complete faith in advise of others in the field. If you live in a remote area of course, a different course must be taken. Dosages depend on weight of the Corucia in question. Doses in many cases are dispensed once aweek for 3 weeks. There are situations when using Baytral for instance where a daily dose is required. I am not a vet so over the forum, I am not going to prescibe various dosages for random conditions. If you have a specific condition, you can E-mail me, and I can refer the matter to the SFCRC clinic.

HIDES:

There are artifical stumps (Large size) with entry holes that are available by at least 2 manufactures. (Names withheld to conform with non-advertising conditions of this forum). I HIGHLY recommend them. They- being artifical- hold up well, they will not rot or invite pathogens, look completely natural unlike baskets (No offense meant to the wicker basket users)and Corucia LOVE them. There are large bridges that Corucia love as well.

ENCLOSURE HANDLES:

If you would like an attractive look to an enclosure door, There is a manufacturer of Prehensile tailed (The tail is curled) lizard handles. They come in Corucia green and Pewter. (Again, Name withheld to avoid a advertising situation in this forum.)

'THE CRAP SHOOT'

You will find Corucia consistently will pick their toilet area, once established, it is advised not to interfer with this area.

I will stop here, I hope this is of benefit to you.

Good luck. I'm biased of course, but Corucia zebrata is a wonderful species to work with.

Sincerely,
Brian
SFCRC

I'd love to have the address to the supplier of the PTS handles.
I've had no handles on my bedroom closet for over a year, because I can't find the "perfect" ones.
You just may be able to provide the information I need to be able to open and close my closet doors again!!!

Thanks!
