Yes, hello again All,
Well, as I believe I pointed out in my last response on previous thread, my 0.1 Heterodon nasicus had her pre-egg-laying shed on the 13th, thus it has been 12 days and no sight of eggs. She has gone in her nesting box every day--usually in late afternoon/evening and throughout the night--and since this past Friday the 22nd, she's been in there exclusively/non-stop, tremoring through like crazy. She finally eased a little last night and completely today, only moving occasionally, yet I do not see any eggs...?!?? Again, she is still in there.
Granted I got a standard Rubbermaid container which is sufficient for her, I perhaps should've got one with a more clear lid, HA! ...like last year's nesting box but which was too small. If I could upload photos from my computer (...?) instead of having to do it to a site then link them, I would show You how difficult it is to see.
Now, I know if the snake is healthy with plenty of weight and energy, they should leave the nesting box on their own when done, correct? Would it hurt to open the lid and see if I can find anything? I am just worried about disturbing her to where she leaves the box and scatters any unlaid eggs around her dry enclosure. :/
Please let me know Your thoughts, and advise what I should do - such as it being okay to lift lid briefly. From my vague memory of breeding Lampropeltis getula californiae in the late 90s--and I know what I am about to inquire on may differ from genus to genus--aren't females supposed to lay their eggs between 7 and 10 days??
Much thanks in advance.
Sincerely,
Timothy
P.S. Smartly--remembered from a Kingsnake book when I bred the aforementioned species--I have had the nesting box on the cool end of the 20GL enclosure, yet still above 75, and the sphagnum moss had tested moist every other day or so right until Friday morning, and I can see it still is. Thus, I am not too concerned about the eggs drying out, but it is still a concern and what this post circles around.
