OT....amphibian question

adamjeffery Apr 25, 2011 05:22 PM

i know its a wrong forum but their is NO traffic in any frog forum.
was just wondering when a frog or toad lays its eggs, if one is albino is the embryo in the center of the gel white as well?
i have seen white embryo's before and was just wondering.

to stay on topic... i have had my one and only clutch so far hatch already from a butterscotch ghost to a normal female. their was 6 eggs and 2 slugs and 2 of the 6 were never fertilized so they got tossed after the first week.

egg masses....the frogs eggs are whitish or clearish...usually from what I remember,....they get dark spots in them fairly quickly....the eyes form....so if it was an amel or albino...the spots would be red or pink(ish).....look for that...some albino frogs are orange...even yellow, not all white.....so look for the eye color....

good luck...yes you could tell fast enough....yes they are in the wild .......

im actually more interested in trying to find an albino american toad or plain old bull frog. i live right off the river so i can literally walk for miles with non stop frog/toad/salamander masses.
my yard gets invaded by the thousands with toads. i figure albino pops up more frequently than most people think. they just get eaten too fast for people to know or realize. so if i can find them in the masses then i can take them home and let them morph into froglet/toadlet

that would be pretty cool to find a wild albino from the start.

i too have been debating to move over into lizards and amphibs again.

good luck and remember to post some pictures.

stories I have heard over the years...

there is a pond south of me...that had yellow bullfrog tadpoles all the time...not alot, but enough...

another guy was called on the phone..caller says..hey..you want 1000 amel tadpoles...the whole puddle is pink (yellow? I forget)...the callee says...uummmm...naaaah...no time for it...

...they are out there....don't pull the eggs, just watch for off color tadpoles....white,yellow,orange, pink....you'll see them if they are there...

amel robin odds are 1 in 30,000...other albino odds?...try Google....

you can buy amel whoodhouse toads and bullfrogs if you really want one....
