Amigo Update

asia2003 Sep 29, 2003 05:49 AM

Hi All,

Wanted to give you all an update on my b/w arg tegu "Amigo" I bought him from Bert at the daytona expo on aug 16, and he measured 16 inches, and now, a little over a month later he is 21 and a half inches long!!!

He is extremely loveable, likes to sleep on the BED! (or should I say, under the pillows, or inside the pillowcases. He has become so used to his leash now, that he gets excited when he sees that we have it ready for him. Also I have been making him golf ball sized SDZ meatballs and he absolutely loves them!! Also, tell me if this is amazing to you guys, he responds to praise! By this I mean that I have taught him to go potty on newspaper, and I think the only reason that he doesnt EVER miss the paper is the fact that we tell him that he is a "good boy" and pet him like crazy everytime he does it right. Maybe I should have named him "einstein" hee hee

Promise I will post new pics soon.

how did you teach him to go on paper? i would like to teach my guy how to do that.

The key is to see the signs that he needs to go in the first place. Amigo will push on the floor with his nose, then walk backwards a bit, kind of situating himself, so as soon as I saw him doing it, I would pick him up and put him on the paper immediately, and then praise him, and pet him like crazy when he was done. Now it is to the point where I can set him on the paper and tell him "Meego, be a good boy" and he will just go, it is quite amazing!!!! The real key is to be consistent with it. It only took a day or two for him to use the paper every single time though.

Hope this helps.

That's awesome Leyla! They really are smart aren't they? Just the other day I was playing with my 5 year old daughter in the play room/herp room and Squishy was scratching at the door of his cage for a little out time. So I open the door and left my arm there. Squishy climbs out just enough to plop his big old head on my hand and wait for some scratchies, which both Jacey (my daughter) and I gladly obliged him with. He then proceeded to cruise around the room checking out all his fave spots. He even got written into the story line with the Barbie dolls we were playing with "Oh my, there's a giant lizard terrorizing the city!". He was even reported to have bitten a little girl but then said he was sorry and gave her a present since it was an accident. Hee hee hee, gotta love the imagination of a 5 year old - especially one who loves her herps!!.

Sounds like you are doing an amazing job with little "meego". Keep it up!
