Habitats and animals - DUW

Sunherp Apr 28, 2011 11:16 AM

It's been a painfully long, cold Winter here in Montana, but things are starting to change: the grass has a green tint and the willows are starting to bud. My milks have been breeding up a storm, and I've got a number of egg clutches already on the ground with many more to come. In light of the Spring atmosphere, I thought I'd share some of the photos that got me through the deep winter. I apologize for only including a few new ones, but it's early in the season, so you'll have to cut me some slack. These are all local places, within a couple hours from my house. I hope you enjoy, and please, if you've got photos to share, post 'em up!

WOW!!,.......as expected, another OUTSTANDING post Cole!. The landscape and the animals you guys discover are simply incredible man!

No freakin wonder you guys find so many snakes, all those rock outcroppings out in the middle of nowhere would HAVE to harbor some good stuff..LOL!

BTW, I am truly envious of that MONSTER trout!..LOL!..

Why wouldn't your friend tell you what state and county it came from? Maybe the friend doesn't know where it came from, and if you're sure he does know the true locality and won't tell you, I wouldn't be calling him a friend. Food for thought.

Let's see the photo, and we all can take a stab at the locality.

I sure wish I was meeting up w/ you all in CA, sorry I've missed the fun, but good luck. I'm intensely jealous, and look forward to hearing about the trip, and seeing photos.

Come on Dave! I know you're booked this year, but make it happen next year. Plus you'll have a whole year to work on your cigar lungs.

Sweet post Cole, nice to see all the habitat snow free. The guy in the third photo down is a handsome sumb!tch, do you take him along to draw the ladies in?

When the weather's nice our habitat is easy to get lazy in. Hardwick after a hard day of lifting. Stillwater Co.

Carbon Co. hillside we need to hit again this year, it should hold more then the one milk we found last year.

Bighorn Co., aka Granit face.

I'm itching to scrabble the hillsides in Carbon County again - the swelling and bruises finally healed and I have a short memory.
Uhhh, this time will be different! Inge the mighty Viking Queen will show us how it's done so in theory, we'll just point at likely rocks or hillsides and she'll bring back the critters. (sweet fantasy yes?)
Nice post Cole.....

Let there be triangulum and lo, the milkhead was born.

The hairy blob is the tail end of one incredibly stinky badger, easily the angriest animal I've ever seen. We were gagging from the stench coming out of that culvert. The grinning face at the other end of the culvert is Cole, obviously delighted to get so close to that elusive beast.
Everyone had a great time!!

I always appreciate the kind word... and the ridicule. LOL I figured some of you would get a kick out of that monster trout! Dell tells everyone he can about my "trophy" fish. At least he posted any of my other fishing adventures... There are some real winners!

Jeff Y.,
The cigar and hat go together so well, I don't think I want to give either up!

Jeff H.,
That critter literally brought tears to our eyes! I honestly can't remember ever smelling anything quite that bad. It was skunk-like, but different. Heavier. Cool beast, though! We'll have to try to track one down when you're here in June!

Doug L.,
The smile faded as soon as the wind changed and blew the badger stink my direction. I thought I was going to have to throw those clothes away! Ick!

Joe P.,
The snake kept it's meal down, but it was a Sceloporus, no doubt.

Doug M.,
Thanks, broseph. There really are a ton of cool places to spend time outdoors around here. Oh, and monster trout! LOL

Dave N.,
You DO have to get up here and herp. It'd be a blast, I promise.
