help me on humidity hides...

ginevive Sep 29, 2003 08:20 AM

How do you get your snakes to stay in their humidity hide before shedding? My one female seems to hate her humid hide, and will hide herself under the newspaper substrate (a very un-humid place) before her shed. She should be shedding within 2-3 days; what can I do, short of locking her in the Rubbermaid humid-hide? Her sheds have always been great, but this time she doesn't want any part of humid hiding. Darn those balls!!

I would mist the cage and gently mist the snake too. it works good for me and Denver is very dry.

Just get ya a spray bottle and give your snake about 4 or 5 good sprays everyday until shedding. Then next time if your snake still doesn't seem to be using the humidity hide just use your spray bottle.

Maybe if he likes to hide in the substrate (newspapers) which is not very humid, you could give him a humid substrate (moist bath towel).

I have a few that do that every shed; I dampen a few folded sheets of paper towel and put it under the newsprint right next to them. I remoisten every few days, and it works every time.
good luck,
