A "First Ever"? : 75% Peruvian Hypos

0PARADOX0 Apr 30, 2011 07:42 PM

Hello Everyone
Well, 10 days after my first litter ever out popped this really small( 7 slugs, 1 normal Peruvian stillborn, 1 live normal and 4 live 75% Peruvian Hypos) litter last night from a 100% Peruvian Female virgin to a 50/50% Hypo Peruvian virgin male. Both were once owned by my friend Aaron Houts of Voodoo Magic boas in Florida and when I bought the male in 08 he had told me about wanting to do this project and I was immediately pumped to see what the results could be. Two years and a room full of Boaphiles later and here they are!!!!!

From what I have seen and been told, there are no other 75% Peruvian Hypos out there. My 50/50 male came from a small litter as well and I have only seen a couple other 50/50s on KS through the years.

I will say, when I bought the male from Aaron, it was awesome looking, super clean with black speckling in only 2 areas of his entire body. Over the years, his entire body has grown into a bright rusty orange/red that even covers 80+% of his underbelly!! He truly looks amazing and continues to impress me with his coloring.

I cannot wait to see these 4 grow up and see their colors
Pictures of the dad and neonates to follow
Thanks for looking!!!!!!!!!! Enjoy
Thanks again Aaron for sharing this vision!!!!
(and,of course, Boaphile Plastics)

The hypos are very nice looking can't wit to see what they look like after a few sheds. I think the one in the top of the picture is going to have a killer looking tail. Also just so you know the "normal Peruvian" is not a normal it's a cross between a BCI and a BCC Peruvian. So please make sure when you sell it the buyer knows is not a pure Peruvian and that it's a cross.

Take care,
Tom

What a season for you so far!

I'm so glad to see things lining up for you as you really deserve it. You have put in some real time work and money and have strived to learn as much as you can.
I'm so glad to see things paying off for you!

As for the babies, WOW!

I'm really interested to see how these guys grow as they're already so light! I think that's going to translate into something really cool when they get older.

Good job, my friend!

Aaron,

Here is a picture I just took of him today!! Its AMAZING what a change in color he has been through!!!! I know you can agree!!! And he is only 50% peruvian!!! You should check him out in person sometime!! You definitely knew what you had when you met me and brought up this project!!!! Thanks for all of your help!!!!

By the way, the 75% hypo babies turned out being 2 boys and 2 girls!! I'll post pics after they all shed, it'll be a while. It's amazing, even looking at Pogo's baby pic to compare how much lighter these 75s are than he was as a baby!!! EXCITING!!! Talk soon!!

But i do. Suprisingly. I think I have come to the point where few boas i dont like. But yours are actually unique looking enough and beautiful and are much more attractive than many projects Ive seen in the past few days posted. However if i can be honest as i was reading the post I was not "feeling" what you were doing for this project and was scared to look. So thanks for doing this project and opening my mind a bit.

Hi,
I really appreciate your message!!! Thank you for the awesome words of encouragement with this project! It means a lot coming from someone who has been breeding a lot longer than I have!!!

I will admit, from the beginning, I have heard a few people tell of their displeasure with cross-breeding the different localities of boas. A few more adamantly than others. I really didn't understand these views at first being as I was new to boas and snakes in general, but have gained respect for peoples' opinions as I've heard them. I can also say, when I first saw the 50/50 male I loved him only for the way he looked and just wanted to see what he would look like grown up. As time went on, I got a better understanding of genetics and I was intrigued by the possibilities of producing something new or at least rare and unseen by my own eyes. To see the male and know that my ambition was to get as close to 100% of pure Peruvian as possible one day while keeping the hypo gene, I didn't feel it would be a huge injustice on the BCC for doing this project. I never had plans to breed anything but the hypo Peruvians.I am more than happy with the colors of these new animals and it makes me feel good that I kept with this project and I will continue to do so.

It is so awesome to hear the compliments you wrote!! I know not everyone will be happy about this pairing but it makes me happy to have someone not only put that aside enough to like what they see and and not take anything away from the snakes but to also publicly admit it!!! Thank you for at least looking and giving them a chance!!!!!! Take care

I know what you mean as I stand on booths sides of the "taboo" line many times and wonder what is the "right thing to do." However I can't be hypocritical I own albinos 50/50 Suriname. And roswells stemmed from this cross too and everyone drooles for roswells. Regular peruvians are bcc too so its a fair deal there. I also own hypo suris which are amazing. I think we have the power to do whatever we want in our rooms, at least we're not making ball python blood python crosses. That's not my bag at all. Like if someone crossed a bci and an epicrates...that I don't like. There's so much to do and so much to consider "is it really necessary?" however if you would not have made this I certainly would of never thought I like them. I actually like them a lot. Over salmontines for sure! Thanks again. Oh by the way, I speak my mind look at my recent posts, I like to shake up our hobby and make people ask themselves the uncomfortable...however all only for the good of our hobby's future.

I completely understand!! I have been excited about this project for a while and am glad I hit on it the first season with my new cages( made ALL the difference in the world!!!) and have nothing but enthusiasm for the future of this project. To see the differences in color in the 50/50 and the 75s, only makes me imagine what the difference between them and the 87.5% babies in the future as I have another 100% Pure Peruvian ( Jim Peter's black and Gold line) female. Id be interested in seeing your hypo suriname, to be honest, also!!

As I said, I do appreciate your input. Im new to all of this and this was only my 2nd litter ever ( first one was only 6 days ago) so I know there is a lot to learn and a lot of people to talk to and get opinions from!! Thanks for being honest and I am glad you liked my new babies!! Hopefully, in a short amount of time, I will produce something else that you'll like, and vice versa! And still, if not, feel free to tell me!! Ive got some really interesting projects that still haven't dropped yet this season!! Thanks again
