What is your worry? If your worried the female is going to somehow hurt the male, it's usually the male that bites the female, while mating. If your worried just introduce them at a time when you can sit with them for a couple hours, and keep a close watch. Make sure they are both well fed, but not with full stomachs. Are they mature and big enough to breed?

Both are 2009's and ready, not concerned for the male just looking for any additional tips such as what do most prefer, putting female in male's enclosure or vice versa....that sort of advice

I learned (from an old timer years ago) to intoduce the female in with the male. Reason being, because in the wild, the males are out on the prowl, searching for an eligible female. Although the females do "put themselves out there", making themselves available, it stands to reason by placing the female in with the male, you have essentially placed the female into the male's territory and most males will almost immediately respond to this, in the comfort and security of his own "pad" LOL. I would say, based on my experience, the snakes seem a little less skitish upon the initial intro doing it this way.

However, On the other hand, I know some breeders (a lot of ball python breeders especially) will do just the opposite, and rotate a particular male breeder through a selection of particular females.

I have done both, with positive results, as have many others so I'm not sure if one way is absolutely better than the other, so try it either way and decide what works best for you.

Good luck!

Funny I do the opposite, cause I figure once the male smells the scent it's on, but the female is the one I try to make feel comfortable. However like micah said, it will work either way. I have been actually putting them in a third cage this year, lined with newspaper. Then returning them back to their own cages after several hours of hopefully courting and mating. Then repeat every couple days.

So Jorge, what your basically saying is that I need to be more sensitive to the female's emotional needs...You sound like my wife.

Anyway, I am intrigued by the "designated, neutral breeding ground" method you use. I can see how that would be beneficial, much like when two people divorce, and go to the mediator's office in the court because it's considered neutral...or meeting at Jack-n-the-Crack for a child custody exchange...or the two people sneaking around, meeting at a hotel, again, neutral ground. Not that I've experienced any of this, it just makes sense. Maybe I'll try it.

Thanks!!!!!

Oh BTW, Like I said, this was a method I learned from a (come to think of it - male shovinist pig) "old timer" nearly 20 years ago. A lot has changed since then, I know.

I don't think it makes a big difference though. I like the third cage because I have become a worry wort after my old age. I don't like seeing shavings stuck on the males wee wee! I know that would hurt me, lol.

ROTFLMAO!!!! "His wee wee". What pains me is when they're locked up and the female tries to take off in a different direction...... poor guy.

"What pains me is when they're locked up and the female tries to take off in a different direction"

You guys were crackin' me up with some of that earlier stuff..LMAO!

But yes, When I know(or suspect) the snakes are locked-up in the drawer-type rack tubs, I am VERY, VERY cautious about sliding them out extremely slow so I don't spook the female into bolting off with one of the male's hemipene's..LOL!....OUUUCH!!!

When I put them in a rack tub together, I just push it in enough so theere isn't a gap, so I have to pull it out as least as possible to peer in on them. Granted, most of the time both snakes are instinctively "hard-wired" to stay pretty still during mating for that very purpose, but now and then some get a bit nervous and skittish when they feel the tub sliding open.

I have noticed that when most snakes are in major breeding mode, I can even reach in and help position the real clumsy-arse males that can't seem to coordinate there tails very well without either snake caring much..LOL!. My big "high-yellow" floridan is like that, and it can sometimes take him many hours of CONSTANTLY trying and grinding on top of the female until he finally gives up in frustration and is beat from attempting so many times(literally hundreds!!). I swear, I have never seen a clumsier snake when it comes to breeding in my entire life!. His tail is like a freakin big baseball bat compared to her stubby short tail, and he has a real problem for some reason manipulating the females tail for a good stab inside..LOL!

Alligators, Crocodiles and turtles seem to get in a weird hypnotic state when they lay eggs too, and humans can walk right up on them with no problem during this time. But just prior and afterwards are a very different story though..HAHA!!

We wouldn't have 6 and a half billion people if you had to be beautiful to get laid.
1.3 African House Snakes
3.2 reticulated pythons
1 corn snake
4.3 Florida Kings
2 speckled kings
1.2 ball pythons
1 Argentine boa
1 Texas Rat Snake
1 checkered garter snake

Yeah, I also do a lot of pairings of things in a "neutral" big open tub where I can see what is going on real well. But I also put them into the rack tubs too, it just depends..LOL!

I have done many introductions in both the male's and female's cages, but I sort of feel the same basic way about trying to allow the female to be less spooked about the introduction since it all revolves around her willingness to breed. But as said previously, it can work well both ways most of the time.
