What Happened?

First off, this is my first year breeding.
I Purchased a "gravid" pastel in April. I was told she ovulated already and had her pre-lay shed February 28th. She was a little on the small side, however I did feel 5 golf ball size follicles/eggs in her. Just to be sure I threw in a Pastel male, but he didn't want anything to do with her. Over the next few weeks she grew a little bulge in her bottom half and was always coiled. She did not use her lay box however, and opted to lay under the moist paper towels on the heat. And she has refused all meals. At about 40 days I got a little worried and checked her to see if I could feel anything. Nothing, but she was swollen a little still. Now today I checked her and she is going into shed.
Any opinions on what happened or what I did wrong?

Sounds like she may have re-absorbed the egg/follicles. Nothing you may have done wrong...if she was a little on the small side she may have known birthing would be to hard.
Just my opinion and I could be wrong.

If she ovulated, she can't reabsorb "eggs"......sounds like the person you got her from didn't see an ovulation......just guessed.....once a female ovulates, you are gonna get something, either eggs or slugs.....sounds like the female didn't ovulate, then possibly reabsorbed her folicles.....or, she ovulated, and YOU missed it, and this is her prelay shed.......

If you felt follicles then she had not ovulated at that time. You can feel the eggs post ovulation but if you don't know what you are looking for, you wont feel anything.

Thanks guys! I really appreciate the input. Maybe I did mistake her ovulation as an egg swell. I am excited to know there may still be hope.

yeah it's sounds like it's probably what Jtrott said at the end there.

I've been fooled several times by females that throw bigger clutches (ie,thinking that they had ovulated and shed. When in reality the shed was just due to the building up of the eggs.)

good luck
