pieds?????

boacraze May 06, 2011 10:59 AM

Looking for some opinions on everyones pieds feeding habits? Reason being I hear quite often that piebalds and there hets tend to be really picky feeders far more so then any other morph or normals? I'm not having this issue with my group of visuals and hets as a matter of fact all of mine are exceptional feeders and were all purchased from. Mark petros! I'm curious if maybe there's more then 1 strain of pieds out there? I know pete kahl bought every pied on the planet in the begining but not sure if these matriarch/founding animals were all related or what? All my hets have the belly. Markers and some other markers I've also noticed! A few of them almost look borderline leopard! anyway I would like to hear how everyone elses pieds are as far as feeding goes! Also I bought my pied stuff from mark because his animals consistintly produces high white examples every year iv never seen anything he's had under 50 percent white! Thanks in advance for you time

The hets i have (bought from jd constriction) are hogs, my male is about 1300 grams and my female is only a year and she is about 1500-1600. From what i have heard i am lucky that they eat all the time, from the sounds of what i have heard is they usually get to about 600-800 grams and then shut down for half a season before they pick back up and even then its hit or miss. Ive also heard this about albinos. Weather or not its true i dont know, this is only my 4th year keeping ball pythons and i dont have a big collection to base anything off of.

I have a trio of hets and a pair of visuals.

My hets are picky. ONLY eat live ASF's. I aonly when to ASF's because a 2 years old they were WAY behind in size. When i switched over to ASF's they NEVER miss a meal and my girls are HUGE!! btw. just for giggles, only one of my girls have the "markers".

My pair of visuals i produced form the above trio. The both are pigs and eat f/t rats on a regular basis and growing like weeds.

My original pied male is a finicky feeder and so are a few of the het's I produced from him. But the few pied's I produced from him and his het daugther are currently and have been good feeders. I was told that my original pied was produced from a pied that was brought in by Ernie Wagner and then bred into some of Pete Kahl's animals.

Pete got the animals Ernie brought in. Ernie could never get them to breed so he sold them.

hi chad how are your pieds comeing along. the one i picked up from you is doing great. she never misses a meal unless she is in shed then she seems to refuse. dont forget if you produce a male with the super low white i want him. everyone that sees my girl says that they want one.

Hey Joe. Glad to hear that shes doing good. The brother to your girl is the same way, NEVER refuses a meal and growing like crazy.

I have a clutch of 5 in the bator now from the daughter of the original pair. She produced a single NO white last season, a feamle.

Im hoping for more no whites.

Ill let you know what i get and if i get a male, you'll have first dibs.

I have never had a single issue with my Pied or het Pied animals. They are consistent feeders and breeders. My original het female is THE LARGEST BALL PYTHON I'VE EVER SEEN. She eats retired breeder rats and weighs more than my 5000 gram scale will weigh and she's pushing 6' in length. Her first clutch at 20 months was 9 eggs. Now that she's a bit older and larger, she averages 13-14 egg clutches. All of her offspring are excellent feeders and breeders. I'm not sure about other lines, but I have not seen the negative issues with pieds.
