Where to go to find boas in the wild?

robert baker May 09, 2011 07:29 PM

Good evening. I am considering taking a vacation (field trip) which includes looking for real live boas in the jungle (i.e. Colombians, Surinams) . I am looking for advice on where is the best specific region to visit. Please let me know where you recommend .....and why. Those that have gone on this type of trip, please please please post your experience.

Thanks,
Robert Baker

Good answer......I am sure they have adapted so well it will not be long before they reach the southern edge of Wisconsin. So maybe I should just wait another year or so and let them come to me.

My smart response would be to go to Suriname for Surinames and Colombia for Colombians. But seriously, grab a guidebook and do some due diligence online (this counts) as to were might give you a better chance of seeing boas.

Although not Boa constrictor species, I found two tree boas while I was in Peru. (As well as a bunch of other cool stuff.)
Here's a trip report.

For some reason common and redtail boas were really hard to find, when someone did find them, they were usually near a dwelling place and stumbled upon by accident. Although, the local serpentarium had several so you know they are out there.

Good luck!

Terry
