Normal Male With Spotted Head

09SKJB May 11, 2011 05:30 PM

This is my first time posting, and i thought it would be a good time to get some opinions on my normal male. He looks normal in every way as far as i can tell, but he has a spot on the top of his head. I just wanted to see if anyone had any thoughts on that. I wasn't planning on ever breeding him - he was my first ball python, and is more of a pet - but if anyone has seen that before or knows if it might be genetic, i just might give it a try. Sorry about the bad pics - i could NOT get him to hold still. (The white patch on his head is dry skin - from an old scar, i think. It always sheds bad just in that spot.)

I honestly think there is a genetic element to it. What that is, I am not sure anyone is pushing to find out, but I have noticed some of my females consistently have babies with these spots (some looking more like a heart, T, or a sign).

I have two normal babies from last year (one male and one female) that have speckled "granite-like" sides, and both have a light spot on the right side of their noses. I kept them to see what happens when I breed them.
What are the odds that two siblings (from different eggs) would come out looking so much alike?
Mother is normal, father is a pastel

What leads you to believe he's a normal?

As far as I'm concerned, that's a Cinny.

A always just assumed he was normal. I bought him as a normal (which doesn't mean much, i know) and he looks normal to me. I am thinking about trying him with a normal female later this year now anyway. Here's a belly shot of him if it makes a difference. I know his side pattern is kind of wierd, but his color is not real remarkable in any way. I'll try to get a picture in better light.

Here are some better pics.

From the top, he screams Cinny, to me. Not so much from the bottom though. I don't know...Oddball.

sorry i dont see it. i have hatched out many cinny, blk pastels, and pewters. that looks nothing like my adult cinny or my adult blk pastel. i will post a pic when i get a chance. go to worldofballpythons.com and look at the morphs page. you will get a better look at cinnys. i think you have a nice normal.

Whoa, you're absolutely right. Haha! I think I need to check the color and contrast on my work monitor. That's weird. And I've hatched out a couple dozen Cinnies myself. Earlier, it looked just like one of my adult females. Not anymore on this screen though. Screams normal now. WTF? My fault.
