NC Sandhills Locale Corns

westernNC May 11, 2011 07:18 PM

This pair was collected within 20 yards of each other in Richmond County on the same day in 2010...as locality specific as it gets! Just got these back from a friend of mine who works at a local University. Really excited about having them back and working with these special snakes that represent a special trip for me.

Thanks for looking!

Michael

Very nice!!

And their phenotype's do seem to be almost identical as well, with only a very slight difference in the background coloration.

Awesome animals. They grew up where I did! Can you give a little more detail on the locality?

I'm afraid to give up too much on a forum... Let me just say they were found along a hard surface road that runs from the gamelands to 220. I would be glad to be more specific if you want to shoot me an email.

I found this pair on a day last year that produced 4 corns and a scarlet king for me, my wife, and my then six year old son from various sites around Scotland and Richmond Co. Just a great time! Thing about the sandhills, as you probably know from being from there, is that you have to hit it on the right day...I usually either hit the jackpot or strike out completely...not a lot of in between like I get along the coast or in the foothills.

Thanks,
Michael

They mean a lot to me. I have herped the area since April 2005 and have bred sandhills locality corns in the past, but these guys are special to me...

Thanks for looking.
