14 Egg Clutch

RandyRemington May 11, 2011 11:27 PM

I know some have had bigger but 14 is my largest clutch so far. Mom was hatched in 1996 but this is only her third clutch (she also laid 14 in 2007 and I think it was 8 somewhere around 2001). I moved this winter and find it interesting that this difficult to get to produce girl picked this year after she spent most of November a little cooler and drier than I would have liked. Wonder if her ancestors come from a part of the wild range where a little cooling is actually helpful to induce breeding. The clutch weighed 1,598 grams and mom weighed 2,680 grams after laying.

Wow! Very cool.

What are you hoping for/expecting?

NICE!!! What are the parents?
My largest clutch ever was a nine egg clutch from a very large and old female.
Congrats!

Mom's a nice bright colored (and huge) normal. I tried three males this year; a dinker that sort of resembles a fire, a chocolate male, and a cinnamon male. Actually I might have even tried a pastel or pastel yb. I didn't keep records on her as I've gotten so used to her skipping years and years I wasn't expecting her to decide to go this year but was throwing about every male I had at her just in case it helped. I actually tried to sell her at a show last August but everyone was leery of her spotted production history. Now I'm thinking I'll hang on to her and try some special cooling just for her. Anyone remember the region reported to have the really big ball pythons and know if the winters are cooler and/or drier there?

Thanks. I've heard the record is in the low 20's from a wild caught female. Can't imagine how big those really big girls are as my two big ones aren't even 5,000 grams and I think they are huge.
