Post Lay Shed?

zach_whitman May 12, 2011 02:04 AM

For the past two years I have had a snake that sheds, then lays her eggs (4-6 days later), then she refuses food and goes into another shed cycle. She sheds about 7 days after laying eggs, then eats like a pig, ovulates, double clutches and repeats the same post-lay anorexia and shed cycle.

I just thought this was weird and I would share it. Anyone ever seen this? And before you ask... definitely no skin diseases.

I had an msp thayeri female do that last year after laying 13 eggs. However, I did not introduce a male after her post lay shed (she was quite emaciated) and she ended up laying four duds a few weeks later. If she looks OK after laying this year, I may try breeding her a second time . . .
