How to Prove out Genetics

kjustice May 12, 2011 09:18 AM

How would one go about proving the genetics of a ball morph.
I know the likely hood of me being right is far off. But I rescued a Ball from an owner who bought it awhile back.... it had a bad respiratory infection. It is very healthy and gaining weight fast.
BUT I got it and it had several stuck sheds. Now that it has shed It is a very tan color with super light blushings. Since it has gained weight the blushings continue to get lighter and lighter. It looks like several of the desert ghost morphs I see posted on the internet. Any word of advice?

1. Breed it to a normal
2. See what you get
3. If no babies resemble the dinker parent than
4. Breed normal looking babies to the parent
5. If any hatch out looking like the parent, it is recessive.
6. If any came out looking like the parent in the initial breeding it is dom or codom
7. To see if it is codom, breed one back to the dinker parent.

the guys/girls are really good at figuring morphs out!

Balls - As many as my husband will tolerate...other various reptiles, animals, kids and a smoking sweet husband; would be perfect if he only liked ball pythons...

The above reply would probably work, however "visible hets" in recessives(such as with leopard boas) or more than one mutation being present ("pink panther" & T-positive in VPI boas) can still present problems in clearly defining a morph....the same occurred in the original Platinum BP breedings in that Platties cropped out and no platty-daddies. So, it can be more difficult than one or two test breedings.

I apologize for the delay.... I seriously cannot figure out how to use this site. She is 800 grams, and the blushing has just started to come out in places

Here is her next to one of my baby normal males. Her color is a serious khaki. Nothing like a normal at all

I wanna say she looks like a Fire and you got yourself a great female to have. But hopefully my work monitor isn't playing tricks on me again.
