PE desert pastel ghost!

joshm May 15, 2011 01:48 PM

Hatched here this morning! As far as I know these are the first ones produced and the first clutch of the year to hatch for me. Sorry the pictures are not the best but they will have to do for now. Out of six eggs got 1.1 pastel desert ghost!, 0.1 pastel desert het ghost, 0.1 pastel ghost, 1.0 ghost and 0.1 het so I just about covered all the bases in this clutch. The PDG are super purple and deep orange underneath all the shiny egg slime. Will update after they shed out.

first a pic of one of the pastel desert ghost and the pastel desert het and then one of the pastel desert ghost by itself..

Congrats on some awesome combos, but I think calling them "desert ghosts" and "pastel desert ghosts" is just asking for confusion with the recessive desert ghost morph. To me, calling them hypo deserts or desert hypos makes more sense. At the very least, calling them ghost deserts seems like a better choice. Just my $0.02.

joshm May 15, 2011 06:02 PM

As stated in my first post these are pro exotic line desert, pastel and orange ghost. Three gene animals. Hope this clears things up for you.

JakeM May 15, 2011 06:07 PM

Yeah, I know what they are. Hence my post saying not to call them "desert ghosts".

joshm May 15, 2011 06:44 PM

Just using the names as they are for each of the three genes. Sorry if your not a fan but if PE desert pastel ghost as I posted was clear enough for you to understand then I dont see what is so confusing? If you figured it out then why wouldn't the other readers be able to do the same?

JakeM May 15, 2011 07:06 PM

The term "desert pastel ghost" used in the subject heading is fine. However, you called it a "pastel desert ghost" four separate times in the body of your post. I'm just saying that the term "desert ghost" already refers to another snake, thus making it sound like you have a pastel/desert ghost rather than a pastel/desert/ghost.

Sorry. In my excitement I used the disputed verbiage in the body of my post. Forever more I will refer to them only as PE desert pastel ghost. Thanks for your input.

Quality_Snakes May 16, 2011 02:48 AM

maybe using the word "hypo" (that is the really meaning of "ghost" for balls) it would make everything easier

I agree.....I think most people that deal with balls refer to the mutation as ghost as opposed to hypo, but what ever he decides to call it it's an awesome snake!!! Hypo would be less confusing though..... Chris

I agree.

If PE jumped of a bridge, would you?

A Ghost is the double recessive in all other sub-species, why be different with p. regius when we all know they are in fact Hypomelanistic, why further ad to the confusion when there is already a mutation called a Desert Ghost?

Nice Hypo Pastel Desert

PythonidaeEmpire May 15, 2011 07:59 PM

Call them what you will but I call these snakes AWESOME!!!! Congrats Josh.

JakeM May 15, 2011 08:01 PM

That's so true. I didn't mean to take away from the fact that it's an incredible snake. Josh should be very proud.

joshm May 15, 2011 08:02 PM

What? No I wouldn't jump off a bridge if PE did but I would refer to the line of animal that I used to produce something new. Both Pete Kahll and PE have co Dom desert animals. This was what I used to produce these and thats why I mention Pro exotics in my post. I produced these and as such get to call them anything I like. Purple unicorn ball, Casper ulgly moo moo pants ball, or PE desert pastel ghost ball. I'm glad for the input good or bad and it's been noted.

PythonidaeEmpire May 15, 2011 09:13 PM

I don't know, I kinds like the sound of the Casper Ugly Moo Moo Pants Ball now that you've mentioned it. Josh once again I tip my hat to ya.

joshm May 15, 2011 09:28 PM

Thanks..

What an awesome combo, that thing glows!..Big congrats to you!

..,and name it whatever you like!..It IS your snake!

My two cents on the name? It's missing the Axanthic gene, let alone the possible confusion with the recessive Desert ghost(Which ironically,is also missing the Axanthic gene.lol).

That's a beautiful snake, but I really think you should call it Casper Moo Moo Ugly Pants as I have already used the Moo Moo Pants name for a dinker project of mine...

We use the Ghost terminology because that is what they were called way back when. My brain has struggled/resisted the change to the Hypo term, even though I use that term referring to other color mutations in other species.

I keep trying to say Hypo, but then Chad says Ghost and it breaks me back down. And then I do the same to him. PE Andy is a newer school keeper, I wonder if he thinks we are dumdums.

I have started a conversation with Chad and Andy to step away from the Desert name altogether, to alleviate further confusion. We'll see where that goes...

I am all for the name change as well. The names desert and desert ghost are too similar. Mix that up with the morphs made from each and someone is asking for trouble when selling offspring. Or even buyers who don't read, contacting the seller only to change the deal after multiple conversations after finding out that the buyer wanted the other gene instead.
Ps... my new Des. Pin. is doing well.

Not a problem until both price really come down.

Desert Ghost are way more expensive than desert (who still kinda expensive).

But it will eventually turn out that way.
