First eggs ever...incubation question.

krfun May 15, 2011 08:07 PM

I have been a long time lurker here and have learned a lot about cornsnakes from reading your posts. If I could could you tell me if the following seems appropriate.

My okeetee produced a clutch of 16 eggs this morning. I did have an egg box for her as this was somewhat expected. All eggs are clumped/stuck together and they all appear similar in size and color.

For an incubator I took a sterilite shoebox size container and taped an uth on the outside of the lid. I have the eggs in vermiculite which I squeezed all excess moisture from. I did drill 4 airholes in the container.

The temp inside is 80.5 degrees and the humidity is 98. There is fog/condensation on parts of the inside of the container.

I am worried about the high humidity and would like to know what the experts here think about this setup.

Thanks

Your set up sounds OK. The humidity is ment to be high. As long as your vermiculite is not too wet (and it sounds like you have it right) you will be fine.

Just check the eggs every so often (without opening the incubator too much) to be sure they keep the right moisture and temps.

Happy hatching!

The uth taped to the lid makes me a bit nervous, but if the temps are stable I guess it should work. The fogging is probably normal, if the medium is not too wet, you should be ok.
