Sorry for the results my friend. Best of luck with the rest of the season!

Kev I'm so sorry , I forget when she was originally due.

With only 4 slugs I can't begin to know what went wrong.

This has been a very dissappointing season for me.

My big fem Salina had problems there was a slug as the first item to be delivered , it was stuck.

She pushed and pushed and I knew what was wrong as it was happening.
She couldn't get that slug out, so almost all the babies birth
sacks ruptured inside her, causing the babies to suffocate.

17 babies suffocated 5 came out with intact birth sacks and lived.

Then my most imporatnt litter Carmella developed a fast growing cancerous tumor.
She wasn't able to stay alive until parturition on July 2nd and
died with VPI & VPI Motley babies inside of her. . . .

Very disappointing season , I'm so sorry Kev I was really
looking forward to these Marron Hypos het Albino.

Knowing how much you love your boas i cant imagine how bad you must have felt in both situations. This is the tough part of dealing live animals. I hope the rest of the season is fruitful my friend

Those would of been gorgeous boas! You got a good breeder marron there that will deliver on the goods soon. Boas are not a sure shot ever.....that's part of the excitement and why we love them so.

I can only imagine what your going through with this...so sorry for your loss

Tracy Barker May 17, 2011 08:17 AM

I am really sorry that you experienced this when you of course have worked hard and were hoping to see a good result.

A few words....

The reason we know a lot more now than ever is because we have been learning stuff every day. The reason we know more today is that we did not give up!

You have to get back in there and take all of the good points of what has happened (you raised the snakes, you bred the snakes, you got something even though that something just didn't go the full distance)and follow through to the next time.

When Dave and I started with pythons we went years getting no eggs. Then we got one egg, then we got half a clutch, then we got perfect clutches. There were a lot of years in between those results. There were years where a single baby "made our year" and that is no BS.

The Boa thing is in its infancy compared to Pythons. I know because I have done both (remember I am old you are young!!) BUT the learning curve on Boa breeding has been a lot faster in my opinion. The results with people breeding Boas has expanded quickly and I see the future as being very routine with the breeding itself and the main concentration being on what combinations we can make.

Thanks a lot Tracy, I really appreciate the comments everybody. I am sad that I missed on the chance to produce the very first of something but am happy that mom is ok. I will never give up on this as boas and snakes in general have always been a passion of mine. Thanks a lot everybody..Take care and good luck to everybody on your season...

Sorry for your loss! That's a big bummer when this happens, specially with such a unique litter as this. I know how you feel because I've had it happen a few times now and each of the litters it happenned to, produced animals that would of been the first of they're type and probably pretty valuable too!?!

The good thing is, you still have the adults so you can try again for the same thing next year.

Anyways, best of luck with the rest of your season!
