I have a hognose laying eggs at the moment and I have taken six or seven out of nest already and they are very soft and almost mushy. Not a hard egg shell. Nice white but not hard. Is this a sign they are not fertile?

No, they may very well be fertile. Hog eggs are soft and leathery. If they are a good bright white, they are probably fertile. Infertile eggs are usually more yellow-colored. Good luck. Can you post pics??

Ultimate Hognose
Eggs come out a little softer and more pliable and harden up a little within the first few hours. Leave her alone till she's done laying, you don't want to disrupt her.
