Time to Play "Guess That Age"

Ameron May 20, 2011 02:21 AM

I’m trying to better gauge the age of my Radiated.

He was bred by a Naples, Fl breeder and was allegedly a sub adult when he arrived in October 2010. He was 33-36 inches at the time.

Based on average hatchling size, and growth rates, is he more likely a 2008 or 2009 hatchling?

0.1 Lampropeltis getula californiae (Los Angeles County Coastal Banded morph)
1.0 Coelognathus radiata (captive-bred, Vietnam origin?)

"is he more likely a 2008 or 2009 hatchling?"

Yes!..

Okay, forgive the humor..LOL!

It is virtually impossible to say really. It depends on too many unknown factors. Could be a very well-fed '09, or a not-as-well-fed '08. And it could be several months difference either way when it was actually hatched in either given year too.

Like Doug says...
Heck, I have had sibs that were pretty different in size...even when the same sex. I have a Childrens that is half the size of any sibs and his sister didn't put on a last growth spurt til I bred her....and she is 5 yrs old.

Your insight was helpful, and you both added important points to consider.

I will never know his age, of course, but I can be relatively certain, within a couple of years. That works for me.
