Is a Zoomed Powersun 100W MV light too hot for Jacksons?

OttoNLucy Sep 29, 2003 02:58 PM

I know they like a basking temp of around 85 degrees. Just wondering if anyone has used MV bulbs with Jacksons and what their experience was.

The question is not is the bulb too hot for him..the question is how close do you have the bulb to the basking spot.

If you have a bulb far enough away - the heat is lower.

You should have a temp guage ON the basing spot. If you dont have one - get one. Without knowing - you could be overheating him. I have one with a wired sensor..I wrap it around the branch in the hot zone and I always know how hot on not it is.

My male tends to like being in the low 90's though. My female likes her hot area around 81..nothing more.

Find where they sit in the cage most of the time (under a hotter area) and get a temp reading....a few inches to the right or left of the hottest area can flux by 3 or 4 degrees easily.

ramble over...must eat lunch...

Where did you get your wrap around sensor one?

Home depot.

All it is is a duel temp reader and singe humidity. Has a temp for inside (at the base unit) and a long cord (maybe 6 ft) with another probe attached.

It is in the gardening dept.

Also - radio shack has one I think...

Try going to homedepot.com and look it up. I am fairy sure they can show you online what I am talking about.

It is really nice. I can look at ambient temp in the cage and then flick a switch and look at hot area temp.

bigappleherp has a great one! I want it, but have not gottne around to it. Basically the same thing, but also comes with a 6ft humidity probe.
