So my female laid 8 eggs last night. I took them out this morning an put them in a homemade incubator. She protested by pushing at my hand with her body. I was just wondering when you all remove the eggs from your females? Last year she double clutched with 15 eggs in each clutch. Only had one hatch an survive so wanted to see what I get this year. Last year she was on jumbo mice. This year I have her on rat pups. She looks better this year weight wise. Would that have anything to do with how many eggs will hatch or is it strictly on how they are incubated?

They will easily lay good fertile eggs being fed either type of rodent. As to them being fertile or not from the beginning is the deciding factor though, and THEN if they were incubated correctly afterwards. Without knowing how many started out good or not in her two clutches, it is just impossible to say here. More than likely it had something to do with your incubating them after they were laid, but who's to say without knowing all the precise details.

It is best to take the eggs right after they are laid, or as soon as you can to get them in the right environment.
