Hi Jeff;...
that looks close to 4 foot to me ....

and were they just laying ON top of the ground? and you didn't have to lift anything to see them?....but we are told they don't do that...LOL

cool.....look like milks around here more or less...(PA)...

Nice to find ....even though I don't....(cops bring more here than I find !)LOL...at least they don't kill them...

Very nice! I am jealous you have triangulum on your property! I sure don't, but I did pull a 5 foot black rat off the road in my neighborhood last week.

Where are you located? somewhere up in NY or New England?

You must live on "Monster Island", I know a guy that would insist that those snakes are 8 footers!!!

Good looking critters, Wayne. One of the most interesting and endearing features of triangulum is their variability over their range. Pretty cool.

Very Nice Wayne!

You're post inspired me to check out a couple of spots after work today.
After flipping a few garters and ringnecks, I thought I had my first milk of the season, but nope, just a juvie black racer in the blue.

Then some snake food under some carpet.

And on to some plywood sheets. Success! A nice large adult L.t.t.

When I got home I went through some photos to see if I had seen this one before. I am pretty sure it is the same adult I photographed last summer in the following two pics. Love seeing repeats.

Nice one. I like the muted tones. Shed phase?

He appeared to be fresh shed. He was very clean and very light compared to most adults I find.

I went back today and he was still under the board and another adult has joined him. This was one that I have not seen in the past.

I went on to find a juvie as well, and oddly enough it is also one from last year under the exact same board as last year.

Today

Last October 10th

I find it very interesting seeing the same snakes from year to year. Hope to see these guys for many years to come!

Also saw this OT beast in the woods today

I'm starting to really like these "tan" earth-tone ones as well. This guy was pretty clean for an adult in my neck of the woods.

That is AWESOME Joe!

That is most definitely the very same snake. Every single marking is absolutely identical..

Too cool!

Wayne, northern black racers (Coluber constrictor constrictor) hatch with a bold pattern and eventually turn completely black (similar to a black milk). That is most definitely a racer.

No doubts or questions about it - that's a Coluber constrictor constrictor. All forms of Coluber constrictor are relatively similar when young. They have a bold pattern on their anterior portion which fades to a gray-ish posterior. It isn't until they begin to mature that they get their distinctive adult coloring.

Yep!,...guaranteed a juvie Black Racer as originally stated, not even a question about it whatsoever. I have seen, owned and collected countless numbers of these over decades.

At first glance I thought water snake too, but after a closer look it is a juvie racer.

you've got there, too! The northeastern spring is treating you much better than ours is out here, Joe. We've been cold and wet... like record-setting wet. There's flooding everywhere right now.
