My baby MHD isn't eating...

kalidraven Sep 29, 2003 04:00 PM

We haven't named her yet. We've had her for about a week and she's only taken down a couple waxworms (which I know are not nutritious) and a couple mealies. She completely ignores crickets and is very stubborn about taking baby food. My boyfriend and I gave her some baby food last night, but it's really hard to open her mouth. We did get some down her gullet, though. She's stubborn! (If it's even a she, there's no way to tell yet.) Does anyone have any suggestions? I really want this one to thrive. I miss my Pandora and want to be successful with this MHD. Thanks for everything in advance!

I know for Spike he only went after the criks if they were dusted heavily (like he could not see them without the color contrast)
and I know they are eating some when I M not around, but if I put them on the floor of the tank, THEN put down the food, they seem to find it more easily
NONE of them have taken a red wriggler yet, but I have high hopes for them all at this point (even skinny Spike shown here)
Good luck

You'll probably just have to put in some quality time hand feeding him. My guy didn't settle in and eat on his own for a long time, so I spent 20 minutes or more every time I fed him. Most of us have had a lot of luck with worms. Probably because they move around a enough to get the dragon interested, but not so much that they're hard to catch. Yours looks too small to take on a nightcrawler, but you could try feeding him part of a nightcrawler.

Good luck with whatever you try.

I saw Belle eat one small red wriggler today
but when streached out it was as long as she was (NVL)
and she was panting after wards (I think it was too big for her)
so be careful
red wrigglers arew also called trout worms, and drift worms
if you want to go to a bait store and get some cheeper than the pet store
