My first clutch ever!

nipro_style May 24, 2011 01:24 AM

I woke up this morning and finnaly my pastel female who bred to my male lesser just laid her eggs!
5 fertile eggs!!!
I'm so excited... It's my first clutch EVER!
OK
now here come the questions:
I use vermuclite for the substrate and I mixed it with fresh water so when I squeezed it, no water came out, and I put them in my incubator with the right temperature. Since it's my first time, I don't wanna make mistakes, and I wonder when can I check the eggs to see if they're doing good, like no water drop on the edges and stuff...
And another thing, do I need to add water in those 54 days of incubating?
How often do I need to check the eggs? And what do I need to see if things not going good?
Thank U in advance, Nati!

Get a weight on the tub so you know how much water to add if you need to...usually dont. Watch the eggs to start caving in before day 50 or so....should start caving in some closer to hatch time.
You can get a small led flash light pin light and stick it on top the eggs in about three days and look for blood veins in a dark room. this should get you off to a good start...
Congrats on the clutch.

Congrats on your eggs.
Give them a little peek every couple weeks.
About 6 weeks in you will start to see condensation on the inside of the lid.
This is normal and expected.
Wipe it off and check it again every day or so.
Good luck and again.... Congrats
