Do i need hides when using tubs?

monkeyface May 24, 2011 09:54 AM

my 1600 gr ball python lives in a standalone sterilite low 41qt tub. The snake is not currently eating. The tub is in a corner of my office and thus its dark in there. I use a heat pad only. Temps are 79 cool end and 92 warm end.

I have seen many people not using hide boxes with adults when housing in tubs. Is this appropriate? I was wondering if this is ok with a 1600 gr adult that isnt eating anyways.

My python never ever ever uses its warm side hide...never. Now some will say that the snake is using it when im asleep. Trust me the snake doesnt touch it.

What do you think seeing as how most of you have many many snakes and could answer this better than anyone.

Are hide boxes needed in a low height plastic bin with a solid white cover?

It wouldn't hurt. I do know several people who use hides in their racks. I have had to use hides with smaller animals when moved into their larger adult bins.

It helps, especially w/Ball Pythons! BTW, he uses the warm hide!
