Deserts - Current Status???

KBuckler May 24, 2011 04:39 PM

So I'll ask the question....how many peoples females slugged out this year so far?

I would love to see a female desert lay eggs and them hatch, but i'm not going to get my hopes up AT ALL !

Obviously the females can and will get to be large adults.

Any news so far??? Robyn???

There was a post with the same question a couple weeks ago about this. I would check that one out.

Terry,

I just looked at our Desert girls today. I've put males with three girls so far, but they have not started growing follicles that I can feel. I'll break out the ultrasound in a few weeks and see what I can see. Two of the girls are now over 2000 grams and the smaller one weighed 1875 grams today. All three girls have copped with Desert plus another gene males. I do have a number of other Desert females but I'm not going to put a male in with them until they are at least 1750 grams and eating well. As with a lot of females of any morph type (not just Deserts) they sometimes stop feeding right as they are getting to breeding size. It's almost like they get "stuck" at 1500ish grams for a few months. But after a few months of spotty feeding they get back into the groove and become late season breeders for us.
I hope to post a awesome photo of a Desert female sitting on good eggs in a few months! And prove out Super Deserts when those eggs hatch!!!
