Longest post shed lay

vega1303 May 24, 2011 07:03 PM

I have a Pastel female who is in her first breed year she locked up nicely with a male yellowbelly became gravid and then shed two weeks later like she should. My problem and question is it has now been 38 days since shed, she is still pretty large so I would say she may be holding eggs still, so how long can she go and still lay healthy eggs, also at what point is too long if she doesn't lose size and I should take her to be checked up?

I've got two questions...Did you infact see her ovulate & is she eating at all for you?

Yes I saw her ovulate, she acted kinda of weird for the two weeks after, she was pretty much living in her water dish, thought she was just shedding or maybe had mites but everything was fine. She ate all the way up to that point then after no more food, she refused for the next two offers so I stopped. She has been coiled on the heat everyday since the shed the only movement when she picks her head up when i check on her, actually took her out today to check her out (at the suggestion of the local breeder) and as I said still is pretty large so I hope those are eggs

You really shouldn't be messing with her...if she was at the cool end...like in the water dish or hugging the front of the tub she is most likely developing follicles...I had a female go 49 days and I know for a fact she ovulated and I counted 49 days after the shed. IMO leave her alone and let her do what she needs to do...just peek in morning and night and sooner or later you should see eggs. She will drop them after she feels she can no longer give them the oxygen they need.
Just my opinion and I could be wrong....

I had a female go 48 days! the only thing I can figure is that it was do to low temps. I have never had a snake take that long since but I raised temps from 85-86 on breeders to 91-92.

I have a (Possible) Het Pied female that is going on her 40th day today (mated with a poss Het Pied). She's still refusing food and remains coiled most of the time. I just check her everyday hoping that one of these days she'll drop. Another female (pastel x pastel) will go on her 30th day tomorrow.
