Well, the video director/father is a complete IDIOT for letting his little daughter walk around with it for that length of time like it was a barbie doll or something while she continued to touch her face and mouth during the course of all this. Then her dumb mother sees this going on and doesn't have a problem with it either if her innocent daughter comes down with a case of rabies.

Two VERY irresponsible parents is really what I saw. I would have calmly taken it from her, set it down, and IMMEDIATELY brought her in myself to wash her hands making SURE she didn't touch her face any more until she was thouroughly disinfected.

Then I would have giggled about it some. But for the two parents to just sit there like morons while their little daughter carries around a dead squirrel and procedds to touch all over herself is just plain as DUMB AS IT GETS!!

It might not look good, but the girl will be fine. Squirrels, and most other rodents/herbivorous mammals are very rarely, if ever, found to have rabies, and generally considered to be a zero-risk.

Well, I was sort of dreading the "dead" squirrel to suddenly revive and bite the hell out of the little girl. Not the best toy!

I've herd that to.
I think mostly Ground Squirrels though, but not sure.

I would have to agree with you Doug, the parents weren't to bright. I think I would even take the squirrel to animal control, to have it checked out.

I thought the video was hilarious. As a practicing small animal vet, rabies is pretty rare in most rodents. Plague, while a valid concern, is transmitted via the bite of rodent fleas and once a host dies, the fleas readily leave the dead host. I think most people over-reacted to the video and there was probably very little harm with what seemed to be limited and harmless exposure given good hygeine post-exposure. FWIW.

I guess the parents made sure the squirrel really was dead before they allowed their child to play with it. A stunned animal can look pretty darn dead until you start messing with it. Otherwise it was a cute video.

I too agree dead animals are not to be played with, and the parents were dumbasses. I for one, would not have allowed my daughter to play with a dead squirrel, or any dead animal for that matter (and I don't even have a daughter btw, but that's beside the point - LOL!) - but what's done is done; and that was one funny video and one cute little girl, and one dumbass dad, and one hot mom...AND ONE FREAKIN UGLY ASS WHIPPET!
