First and foremost simply go to Turtle Homes USA.

http://www.turtlehomes.org/usa/index.shtml

I'm sure that they can help you get as many adoptees as you can fit on your 5 acres in a failry short amount of time. There are many reptile oriented adoption agencies out there as well. Go to www.Google.com and try to find some of them by searching for "reptile adoptions" or "reptile rescue" or similiar terms.

Hope that helps.

Where in central Florida?

BeginnersBasics Oct 01, 2003 07:08 AM

I am also in Central Florida (Titusville) and looking to adopt a Tort.

I was actually coming to this forum this morning to post on where to look and then saw this thread.

I am a Bearded dragon breeder, but I also do free educational shows at the local elementary schools and have wanted to add a tort to my "show animals".

I am going to check out the link provided in the previous reply, but if anyone here is also in Central Fl and knows of someone or somewhere local, please email me

Thanks

TURTLEHOMES WANTS YOU!! Go fill out and application that you download from the site (Turtlehomes.org) and submit it with a picture of the enclosure you intend to keep the animal in and if it all checks out you WILL get a sulcata. We need people who live in warmer climates and can keep large sulcatas outside pretty much year round and with a heated shelter for the cooler days and nights. We get a good number of them of them in once they start to get of 6 or 7lbs and can always use new homes for them.

The only major requirement is that you are able to house them outside for most all of the year. If you keep them indoors all or for the better part of the year you will be turned down.

It is not impossible to do this successfully (just very difficult -- so this why this policy was adopted).

Good luck
Steve
