Some Killer animals there Kerby, just a quick question what is the genetic difference between the light and dark Ghost phase animals. Is the dark phase have hypermelanistic in it?

Kerby... May 26, 2011 11:36 PM

Both are Ghost/Palomar, a single recessive gene. The dark Ghost is also possible het albino and possible het hypomelanistic and came from clutch #9 last year. The parents are triple hets (ghost, albino, hypomelanistic). Here are pictures of the parents.

and the clutch pic:

The light colored Ghost is het albino and possible het hypermelanistic and came from clutch #7 last year. The dad is an Albino, het ghost and the mother is a double het (Ghost & Hypermelanistic). Here are pictures of the parents.

Really like that light ghost at the bottom Kerby. Very cool extremely reduced head coloration going on there too!

That is why I kept it, although it is a male. I produced a few Ghosts last year and we shall see what pops out this year. This year I also bred my double hets (Lavender & Ghost)....so hopefully I will get lucky like last year on my double hets (Hypo & Ghost) that produced the 1.1 Coral Ghosts.

In the mean time a lot of Ghosts that are hets and possible hets for a lot of stuff.

It is hard to see from the pics but the Coral Ghosts have a lot of other colors going, pink, purple, etc.... Will see what happens as they get older. And to see if I produce some more this year.

Morph = genetic mutation, and/or distinct natural variation, NOT a hybrid/cross as you are always trying to promote here.................Jeff..LOL!

Yeah, this hobby in many aspects has gotten to be like going out into the everglades in the middle of the summer at night-time, and trying to battle mosquitos with a single fly swatter, Gerard.

They dont bother me at all. Horseflys sting but I go fishing in West lake in the middle of the summer and dont have any problems. Now the others never seem to stop. Those ghost Cal Kings are something though. I cant stop looking at them.

Yeah, what I really like about that particular light ghost specimen, is not only the dorsal pattern is very unusual, but it is also so reduced melanin-wise that it's head is almost completely void of color as well. Which of course is why Kerby likes it alot too. I like when ghosts of any type really display the hypomelanism feature very noticeably.

Oh!,.....and of course the fact that they are NOT hybrids or subspecific crosses..

REALLY Cool Stuff!

What are the coral ghost comprised of? (lavender? Hypo?)

I really like that "dark Ghost" ... Would you consider it a "Mosaic Ghost" ?

~ZF

Kerby... May 27, 2011 08:46 AM

The Coral Ghost is displaying both the Hypo and Ghost/Palomar gene at the same time. This year I am breeding other double hets (Ghost & Lavender) and they should be different if I get that 1/16.

Here is a picture of the Hypo male breeding with the female Ghost (het albino), thus producing the parents of the Coral Ghosts.

Mosaic Ghosts.......... it does look it would fit that title, but it is just an aberrancy and until I can produce them with predictability and consistency, then I'm not going to label them as such. But I will keep that name in mind if the projects develops into that.

Wait a mintue! i just "realized" what you wrote! the corals are Ghost-Hypo 2x HomoZ??? that's soooooo strange to me seeing how dark those morphs are individually!? It's be super weird if the lavender gene did the opposite... i can't wait!

~ZF

Kerby... May 28, 2011 12:02 PM

Since my original female ghost was 100% het for albino, there was always the possibility that any of the offspring (double het ghost x hypo) were also het for albino. And some are proving to be by breeding thus being triple hets (ghost, hypo and albino). Now I know for sure that the female Coral Ghost (hypo ghost) last year came from triple het parents (ghost, hypo and albino), so my first thought was that the first Coral Ghost was displaying all three recessive genes at the same time (ghost, hypo and albino), but what were the odds of that? 1 in 64? Here is the clutch picture:

Then when the second Coral Ghost (hypo ghost) hatched out, there were no albinos in the clutch and I just assumed that now the Coral Ghosts were just displaying two recessive genes (ghost & hypo). I guess it is possible that the parents of the second Coral Ghost are also triple hets (ghost, hypo and albino) instead of them being double hets (ghost and hypo). Here is the clutch picture of the second Coral ghost:

Hope this makes sense.

So Flame Line anery's are THAT white? And is this the result of many breedings to get these, or the initial?

ZFelicien Jun 02, 2011 06:40 PM

So Flame Line anery's are THAT white?

Yes

And is this the result of many breedings to get these, or the initial?

Short story: My buddy Tom Agosta popped out two anerys (1.1) that were hi-white from some Fengya line "Flames" Kept the pair... bred them producing 1.2 hi-white Anerys and 0.2 Snows. I scored all but one of the snows and sold one of the Anerys.

The F2 offspring show less yellow than the F1's (except the one i sold which is still showing yellow but she's just as light as the ones i kept)

Original Fengya "Flame"

F1 Anery Breeder male (sire to my snakes)

F2 Anery Male (hatchling)

F2 Anery Female (hatcling)

Sold F2 Anery Female (adult): After seeing this pic i wish i kept her! i didn't like the yellow initially but it looks cool!

F2 Snow Female (hatchling)

F2 Snow Female (sub-adult)

Te Axantism is Present in only one animal.........C

ZFelicien May 28, 2011 05:51 PM

They aren't axanthic... they have no axanthic in them what so ever actually.

These express the same gene other Anery Floridana they are just super clean. the Anery mutation floridana act just as the name suggests... it suppresses red/orange pigments but it doesn't affect yellow pigments,

The male is Black & bone white the female is black & Creme (showing some yellow... and cleaner than the male)... a Snow sibling also displays some yellow pigments (very little). I sold the other anery female sibling i had because she showed LOTS of yellow which is not the look i'm going for (hope to breed it out completely actually).

EddieH Jun 01, 2011 12:42 AM

Zenny the one I got from you not near as white as those two but she did lay 8 very white eggs for me.

ZFelicien Jun 01, 2011 02:23 PM

That's pretty cool!... i'd love to see her! What'd you pair her with? (shoot me an email if you don't wanna share here)

Great looking kings, Kerby! Any photo's of an adult hypo like the juvi you have here? Is that lavender or T Albino?

Kerby... May 28, 2011 09:08 AM

Here is the hypo with a female lavender from 2007. It is his hypo gene that I am using but since I am breeding him with other stuff the babies are aberrant, but it is the same gene. The eyes give it away.

He was one of the snakes that left in my attempt at reducing how many snakes I want. Last year he was the father of 4 clutches (# 3,4,7,21).
