Question regarding moving eggs

donv May 27, 2011 03:22 PM

We're moving in a couple weeks. If you have to move eggs, whens the best time to do so? Any input on moving eggs appreciated. Thanks in advance, Don

Well, I would simply just mark any loose eggs at the top just in case any DID roll during the course of travel and moving, so they can be re-positioned to their original position if needed ASAP. But otherwise I would just keep them in their nestled well in their incubating containers and nestle them very securely inside some clothing, packing "peanuts", etc... to help prevent them from vibration and bumps during the move. I would also make damn sure the sun couldn't beat down on them through the car/truck windows too by placing a couple light-colored towels on top of the box you put them in. Alot of people use insulated coolers, and that will work good too.

good luck with the move!

Thanks for the info Doug. I could have been clearer in my question. I was really more curious about WHEN is the best time to move eggs if you have to. In other words, I could move them to a friends place the day they are laid vs moving them several weeks down the road. I was thinking maybe there's a window of opportunity to move them prior to the embryo "setting" in place? Any thoughts?

Don i'm not sure that any paticular time in incubation would be better than another. I don't really know that it would be best but if I had to choose I would probably move them the day they are laid or try and wait intil the last third of the incubation when they have some size in the egg. Again, i'm not sure it would necessarily be better or not.
If I could, I would carry whatever you have the eggs in in your hand while your driving. It will take the stiffer jarring and shaking out of the trip for them. If you have to go very far I guess that would be hard.

Sweet looking beauty snake and clutch there by the way.
