Post-Shed Posing + small heart attack

curaniel May 28, 2011 12:22 AM

The small heart attack came at tank cleaning time tonight. I pulled out all the "furniture" and didn't see Garnet curled up under any water dishes, so I commenced digging up all the substrate. Hmm. No snake. I rooted through it again. No tiny boa. On the third trip through the mulch I'm starting to freak out, wondering just how the heck she managed to escape and calling for my husband...when I happen to look into the cage that surrounds the light fixture. When I got these new tanks, I sewed a fine mesh around the inside of the light cages so that my skinnier snakes wouldn't climb into them and get too close to the heat. I don't actually use heat or light in Garnet's tank, and thank God for that - she was curled up INSIDE the cage! I have no idea how she got in there, but she also had a complete shed hanging out with her, so I decided it was picture time! I love snakes, and I love orchids, so I have a lot of this combo, lol!

Sorry these are more of my grainy cell phone pics.

She looks really pretty in combo with the orchids... glad you found her!

I had a similar incident a few weeks ago with one of my babies. Offered it food, which it wrapped... since it was occupied I looked away for 20 seconds. When I looked back the snake was gone. Frantically searched everywhere and found it curled up happily behind a tub just a few rows up from his. Guess he didn't want to eat after all!
