A tiny unusual litter

boaphile May 29, 2011 07:56 PM

Females with more than about 60% slugs normally drop about ten days early leaving us babies that don't make it and slugs that even with lots of barbecue sauce are overrated. I know, some of you guys have only seen slugs in pictures, but I have seen lots of them in real life.

So I have only one breedable female Sunglow. I chose to try to get a little Key West to see if he was producing any viable sperm.

He did his thing like a champ but she looked almost normal half way through the wait. A month ago I had her pegged as a slugger and had been waiting for the slugs to come early like they always do. I know, some of you guys only know that because you have read about it.

Well, yesterday was her due date. She was in the lock and load mode position many times over these past four days. I was actually starting to worry about her because she was not having those puppies. This morning I was making my rounds pulling the rats that were uneaten as I had fed yesterday, when I came to her cage. I looked in not expecting anything and to my surprise, there were actually a few babies. Babies in a veritable sea of slugs. 28 stinking slugs! It makes me disappointed when I think about what could have been for sure. But she did give me 8 great babies including a couple Key Wests and one Hypo Key West. Needless to say, though I would have had a lot more fun pulling and cleaning goo from 36 babies, I am very happy to have been blessed with this small litter from a female I was expecting nothing from just a couple weeks ago.

Congrats! May have been a small litter but wow what an awesome one!
That hypo Key West is so cool! Very nice how the Key West pattern totally held it's own against the hypo gene... Not to many pattern morphs can say that!! One more solid factor to the "I gotta get me one of those" that I've been going through

Sorry about all the slugs but it looks like you have i couple of really nice keywest there. Congratulations, I really like the hypo

Stunning hypo. That tail is unreal. Sucks about the slugs but that's Boa breeding for you. Right.

Now, make an orange-tail hypo version.

Outstanding. I can't wait to see that once it sheds a few times.

I've had a few of these litter types too. I'm happy to get what I can too just like you.....

Maybe I am out of the loop on the key west project. Has there been an attempt at a super form yet? Just curious. I did a quick search, but couldn't come up with an answer.
