Sorry - Genetics question about ghosts

Wallbanger26 May 30, 2011 06:14 PM

I haven't posted here in A LONG TIME! I hope everyone is having a great year.

So here's my question......

I have: all adults
1.0 Spider 100% het Ghost
0.1 Orange Ghost
0.1 (supposed) 100% het Desert Ghost
0.5 100% het Citrus Ghosts (from 2 different breeders)

Over the past 3 years I've made at least 1 clutch from every female, 2 from some. I've hatched out over 40 eggs. The only females I've made a ghost or honeybee from are the het Desert and the Orange ghost. NONE of the 5 het citrus ghosts have ever produced a ghost or a honeybee, some after 2 clutches.

I want to invest some money in a couple of morph ghost breeder males this year, but it dawned on me today, what if all the ghost lines aren't compatible??? I was told a couple years ago when I purchased the hets, all the lines were compatible. Has that notion changed and I missed the memo, am I having horrible luck with odds, or did I get screwed?

Your opinions would be nice. Thanks a ton.

1st, desert ghost is a totally different gene than the other "hypo" genes you listed. The animals in your collection must not have this gene and have a orange type hypo gene rather.

2nd, not all "ghost"/ hypo genes are compatible.

I hope that helps and best of luck to you this season!

I worked with the citrus ghost early on and never produced a ghost when crossing it with the other ghost lines, Orange ghost and butterscotch lines for me. Was disappointing for me, but just moved on. Good Luck.

Unfortunately, not all lines are compatible.

What I am pretty sure of (but didn't produce it myself)

Orange & butterscotch are compatible.
Orange & green line are also compatible.
Don't know if the butterscotch and green are compatible, but should be since the others are. (unless something weird happen here).
There is (was) a yellow line around that is also compatible with the orange.

The blue line is not supposed to be compatible.

I don't know how you got a het desert ghost produce a ghost unless it's not really a desert ghost, or just a complete forgotten line.

The Desert Ghost line is a morph on it's own proved to not be compatible with orange ghost line (someone produced a desert ghost x ghost combo this year).

I have no information on the citrus line unfortunately, sorry. (So far it looks like it's not compatible from what it seems from your breeding).
I hope you kept some of the babies at least, you have lot of possible double het, can make awesome ghost may be one day (long shot but ...).

Good Luck and sorry for the bad news.

Unfortunately I have been informed of everything you guys have said and what is posted here is consistent with the other info I received.

I did hold back some of the nicer looking morph females. So I basically have 6 pos dh Orange Citrus Ghosts. I guess it'll be a fun dinker project over the next decade!!!! LMAO

Thanks again.
